Asim K. Desai is the managing partner of Carlson, Calladine & Peterson LLP's Los Angeles office where he specializes in the representation of property and casualty insurers in bad faith litigation, as well as commercial disputes for small and large businesses. Mr. Desai's experience includes both prosecuting and defending high exposure, complex cases in the areas of bad faith, professional liability and contractual disputes including fraud, product liability and catastrophic injury. His bad faith trial experience includes successfully defending insurers in claims involving advertising injury, entertainment, construction defect and damage to real property. Mr. Desai earned his B.A. in English at the University of California and continued his education at the Southwestern School of Law in Los Angeles. He is an alumnus of the Los Angeles County Bar Barrister's Trial Advocacy Project (TAP), through which he served as a volunteer Deputy City Prosecutor for the City of Long Beach. In August 2004, Mr. Desai was named to a four-year term on the State Bar of California's Business Law Section Insurance Subcommittee and is frequently invited to speak for organizations such as the Property Loss Research Bureau (PLRB) and DRI. He will be speaking at the upcoming DRI 2004 Insurance Coverage and Practice Symposium this December and will chair the Bad Faith Track for DRI's 2005 Insurance Coverage and Claims Institute. In September 2004, Mr. Desai was named a "Southern California Super Lawyer: Rising Star." The "Rising Stars" are chosen through a ballot process by the Southern California Super Lawyers. To be considered a "Rising Star," attorneys must be in practice for less than 10 years or be 40 years old or younger. The final list includes less than three percent of the Southern California Bar and was featured in the September 2004 issue of Los Angeles Magazine. Mr. Desai, his wife Cecille, and nine-month-old son Nickhiel live in San Pedro, California where they faithfully follow their favorite local teams (UCLA Bruins and LA Dodgers) and Mr. Desai's hometown teams (the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians).
